Supreme Court will consider hearing Louisiana marriage equality case

In an unprecedented move, the U.S. Supreme Court will consider taking on a same-sex marriage case out of Louisiana.

A District Court upheld the state’s ban on marriage equality, and the plaintiffs appealed to the 5th Circuit Court. In the meantime, they also asked the U.S. Supreme Court to consider the case.

The high court’s docket indicates that the Louisiana petition will appear at their Jan. 9 conference, where the Supreme Court will consider hearing the case.

This is the first time SCOTUS has said they’ll even look at a gay marriage case. In order for them to hear the case, four of the nine justices have to agree that they want to consider it.
