No ruling on same-sex marriage ban in Monroe County hearing

A second hearing has come to a close, but there is still no ruling on Florida’s ban on same-sex marriage.

Monroe County Circuit Judge Luis Garcia heard arguments in a lawsuit filed by Key West couple Aaron Huntsman and William Lee Jones. They sued Monroe County Clerk Amy Heavilin in April for marriage licenses.

According to Equality Florida, who has a staffer inside the courtroom, the judge opened the July 7 hearing by announcing that we should not expect a ruling today.

Last week, Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Sarah Zabel heard arguments in a different marriage equality lawsuit, filed by six same-sex couples and the Equality Florida Institute.

No ruling in that hearing yet, either.
