Watermark’s 2014 Orlando Fringe Reviews: Chase & Stacey Present: Joy Ride

You won’t see the same Chase & Stacey Present: Joy Ride as I did the other night. Not because each show is a different show, but because each is improvised and made up on the spot.

Chase Padgett, who’s an award-winning solo show performer, is hilarious as he transitions from one character to another. A personal favorite was a slack-jawed rutabaga farmer who was having difficulty making a television commercial.

Another skit that shined through was a sexual encounter completely devoid of touching. The two actors were just silhouettes, tapping away at sound boards, looping noises to create the sounds of sex without the use of any dirty words. Chase and Stacey’s use of props and instruments enhances the shows comedy without overshadowing Chase and Stacey’s own performances.

The show may not be the same, but the quick word play between Chase Padgett and Curious Comedy Theater artistic director Stacey Hallal will carry through to each performance as they continue to entertain audiences at Orlando Fringe in the Pink Venue.
