Watermark’s 2014 Orlando Fringe Reviews: Simply Streisand

Carla Delvallaggio as Babs herself brings two different tribute shows to the Fringe Festival this year — Streisand, Memories and The Way She Was featuring Barbra’s more vintage work.

Carla’s look and sound was certainly on point, down to the very smallest of mannerisms, like her giggles to her witty interactions with the audience. With more than eight years of experience performing as Barbra, Carla has certainly mastered her craft. The show we saw featured Barbra’s works from the 60s, and it seemed more like a concert rather than most Fringe cabarets that had a story line.

There were several photo montages and even an amusing interaction with Judy Garland resulting in a beautiful duet. Carla’s voice is fantastic, specifically in her lower register and often I had to remind myself that she was actually singing live. With the exception of a few minor issues like the volume levels being slightly off, her voice did over power the tracks a couple of times.

The show was like buttah, certainly entertaining to those who love Barbra and to those were like me — a little Babs-Curious.
