Watermark’s 2014 Orlando Fringe Reviews: And Baby Makes Four

And Baby Makes Four is a musical rendition of a threesome’s journey once their lives are turned upside down with the news of a positive pregnancy test.

The play, written and directed by Stephen J. Miller, takes you on an emotionally charged musical journey through humor, disappointment and, in the end, love.

The three-way couple, which consists of three characters played by Todd Allen Long as Alan, David Almeida as Tony, and Marcie Schwalm as Carissa, have been together for more than 12 years. Trouble hits when pregnancy and infidelity issues start to make a presence in their relationship.

Some of the highlighting moments of the play are expressed through the vocal stylings of Alan’s character. His deep strong vocals perfectly fit his role.

Tony’s character lightens the overall serious mood of the musical. However, I felt his sympathetic character is somewhat lost once conflict hits the relationship. Along with his goofy profession, his dancing and singing will have you laughing a storm.

Carissa’s character is a strong-willed Puerto Rican, who makes her living as a freelance writer.

If you’re looking for a play that will have you giggling and choking up, this is a good fit for you. It’s filled with gay humor, sexual innuendos and occasional profanities.
