2nd Annual Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast

Orlando – Orlando attorney John Morgan was the recipient of the 2014 Harvey Milk Diversity Award, presented at the 2nd Annual Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast.

Morgan was recognized for his support in the battle against 2008’s Amendment 2, which banned the recognition of same-sex marriages in Florida, plus his many involvements in the community, including his generosity to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida.

Radio host Jim Philips and Orange County Comptroller Martha Haynie were the 2014 Champion of Equality honorees.

Milk’s nephew, Stuart Milk, was the keynote speaker and he ended his address with a surprise.

“This individual… is really one of the giants,” Milk said, addressing a ballroom filled with leaders of Orlando’s LGBT community. “He’s one of… the people who are the real Rosa Parks.”

Milk then presented a surprise Champion of Equality Award to Watermark publisher Tom Dyer, saying “This gentleman even took hard economic times and made sure we had a publication to read that would address the LGBT community, even when it wasn’t easy to do so.”

The event was held at the Double Tree Hilton in downtown Orlando and presented by The GLBT Center of Central Florida, Metropolitan Business Association and Watermark.
