Straight man barred from South Beach gay club

South Beach – A South Florida straight man is no longer welcome at a South Beach gay club.

Omar Raipute told WSVN, a Miami TV news station, that he was banned from Twist for being straight, and questioned if it was legal because he claimed he didn’t do anything wrong to be banned from the club. Twist has been open since 1993 and has welcomed men and women — straight or gay. Rajpute, a former contestant on the TV show X-Factor, is a dancer. He said he frequents gay clubs, including Twist, because they play good dance music.

Twist’s manager told reporters Omar was a “good person at heart” but he was usually a nuisance at Twist and never had money to buy drinks, so he would try to solicit drinks from other guests and staff members. The manager said he has received complaints about Rajpute from both men and women.

At the end of the segment, Broward County’s public defender weighed in and said the club legally can bar Raipute for not buying drinks and for bothering other customers.
