A neuroscientist is claiming that smoking during pregnancy can result in gay kids.
Dick Swaab, professor of neurobiology at Amsterdam University, said drinking and taking drugs can lower a child’s IQ and taking synthetic hormones and smoking can increase the likelihood of baby girls becoming lesbians or bisexual.
Pre-birth exposure to both nicotine and amphetamines increases the chance of lesbian daughters, Swaab told the London Sunday Times. Pregnant women suffering from stress are also more likely to have homosexual children of both genders because their raised level of the stress hormone cortisol affects the production of foetal sex hormones.
According to Swaab, a fetus’ brain begins to develop at two weeks, and therefore anything that exposes the fetus to toxins affects its development. He added that lifestyle factors are just one factor and that genetics are the most important key, but Swaab said research shows what a woman does and consumes during pregnancy is directly linked to how the fetus’ brain develops.
