Guess which city has the highest concentration of gay couples?

Think you know which is the gayest city in the United States?

If answered San Francisco, you would be wrong.

Fort Lauderdale, with its 19 gay resorts, tops the list of cities with the highest concentration of same-sex households, according to a Huffington Post analysis of 2012 U.S. Census data released Oct. 1. In Fort Lauderdale, 2.8 percent of the households are headed by either two men or two women.

The biggest surprise finds San Francisco in third place with 2.5 percent same-sex households, edged out by Seattle with 2.6 percent. Seattle’s gay households jumped 1.7 percent from 2011. Miami did not make the top 10.

The Huffington Post analyzed a different set of census data for cities around the country and posted the list. The actual census data on cities in Florida was not available October 1 because the website containing the agency’s databases was unavailable due to the federal government shutdown.

According to the Census results, these are the top 10 cities for same-sex couples:
10. Warwick, Rhode Island
09. Washington, D.C.
08. Providence, Rhode Island
07. Oakland, California
06. Somerville, Massachusetts
05. Portland, Maine
04. Minneapolis, Minnesota
03. San Francisco, California
02. Seattle, Washington
01. Fort Lauderdale, Florida
