Lakeland man arrested for murder of Miss Wanda

A 23-year old Lakeland man has been arrested in the shooting death of Anthony Jerome Lee, better known in Miami as the popular drag queen Miss Wanda, according to Tampa Police.

Deandre Tolliver was taken to the Hillsborough County Jail on Saturday, June 8 in connection with the first-degree murder and armed robbery of Lee, 49, who died inside a home at 3911 E. Genessee St. in Tampa about 6:30 p.m. May 28, Tampa Police Lt. S. Hartnett wrote in a briefing.

Harnett said Tampa Police believe the night Lee was killed, Tolliver and two other people, who have not been identified, pulled into the driveway of the home in a Dodge Magnum. Tolliver went to the door while the other two people remained in the car. When Lee answered the door, he was forced inside and was shot during a struggle. Lee and the others drove off. Lee was taken to Tampa General Hospital where he died from his injuries.

Hartnett said police detectives were able to identify the owner of the car and, through interviews, determine that Tolliver was the killer. They are continuing to search for the other two occupants of the car.

Lee, who is from Tampa, had gone to the home on Genessee Street to cook dinner for a friend who was ill. Police believe Lee was an unintended target in the shooting.
