Monet takes GaYbor title
It was a packed house at The Honey Pot in mid-May when Nicky Monet took the Miss GaYbor 2013 title. The show was organized by Michael Wilson of Hamburger Mary’s and had a Vegas-style flavor to it throughout the night. Contestants competed in a number of categories, but the category that had the crowd most excited seemed to be the talent competition, which was complete with some impressive backup dancers. A professional panel of six judges chose Nicky Monet among a strong pool of talent. Miss GaYbor 2012 Amy DeMilo was on hand to entertain throughout the night and to give up her crown, all while prepping for another pageant title of her own…

DeMilo takes title
Speaking of Amy DeMilo, the Tampa Bay icon, WAVE-award winner and bingo hostess can now add another title to her long list of accomplishments: That of Miss USofA Classic 2013! DeMilo traveled to Dallas, Tex., to participate in the national pageant and took the crown with an eight-point lead by the time things wrapped up on Monday, May 20. DeMilo tied for second in the talent category but scored the highest in interview and in fashion. Her two first-place scores, coupled with a high talent score, were enough to put her on top. DeMilo’s runner-up was Roxie Hart and second runner-up was Victoria Lace. DeMilo shared her thoughts via Facebook the day after the pageant: “I’m awake and still have the crown, my dream is a reality! I’m looking forward to a fabulous year starting the new chapter to Miss Gay USofA Classic!” Congratulations Amy!

Mister, Miss and Mr.
It must be drag season, because this section seems to have nothing but news about drag titles this time around. But more titles are on the horizon, and few get as much attention as Mister and Miss St. Pete Pride, which will be held at Georgie’s Alibi in St. Petersburg on Sunday, May 26. This is the fifth year for the pageant and for the first time that a new category has been added: The Mr. title. The new category is for those who were born male or have a male gender marker on their government ID who wish to perform as a male. The Miss St. Pete Pride category is for biological males who perform as females, and the Mister St. Pete Pride title will be awarded to a biological female performing as a male. The Mr. category has already sparked a great deal of interest. Contestants will compete in Creative Pride Wear, Talent, Formal Wear and on-stage question. Winners will represent Florida’s largest LGBT Pride celebration for a year and get a chance to perform on stage during the annual street festival on Saturday, June 29.
