Fetish

Fetish

Is it possible that each and every one of us secretly has a Fetish? Writer/performer Jason Nettle seems to think so.

Nettle returns to Orlando Fringe in this one-man show that provocatively takes on a global obsession with the fetishes people practice behind closed doors and sometimes not so secretly online.

Nettle argues that the Internet has not only helped better connect us all to information and one another, it has also made it easier to download, upload and broadcast all kinds of fetishes to the world (thanks to the death of dial-up modems). Golden showers, bossy bottoms, MILFS, adults in diapers and Bronies are some of the categories Nettle touches on. Fetish could have easily derailed as a clumsy and exploitive sideshow of odd obsessions and sexual anomalies, but Nettle braces the shock-and-awe factor of his fetish expose with thoughtfulness and non-judgment. Freud even makes a guest appearance as Nettle hilariously examines the subconscious underpinnings of fetishism.

The funniest and most relatable parts of the show are when Nettle exposes his own hang-ups and insecurities with sex, love and Skinemax.  Of course, everyone’s sex life is unique with varied circumstances and motivations, which Fetish occasionally comes close to over-simplifying.  Nettle could benefit from looking up the term versatility (not all gay men are tops or bottoms). Even so, his performance is not only a load of laughs but also surprisingly therapeutic.  Overall, Fetish is honest fun and entertainment whether you are a seasoned fetishist or just a little “curious.”
