Orlando: From Gaga to dogma

Orlando: From Gaga to dogma

Politics gets Randy
Orlando resident, activist and Flash Mob enthusiast Randy Ross may be taking his prolific skills to a whole new arena. Last week, Ross told Watermark that he's â┚¬Å”reviewing various options and it's possible I may consider a run for office.â┚¬Â  Although, he wasn't clear as to which seat he hoped to acquire the Thornton Park resident recently posted pictures of election campaign reading material on his Facebook page boasting the comment, â┚¬Å”now, what to wear when I make this announcement and when to make it?â┚¬Â

Gaga for the mouse
In case you live under an egg, you're aware that Lady Gaga brought her Monster Ball tour to Orlando's Amway Center Friday April 15. Leading up to the concert, Facebook was abuzz with rumors that the Grammy Award-winning singer would make appearances at various local LGBT-friendly night spots. Although, the Fame Monster never materialized on the town, Mother Monster was spotted at Walt Disney World following her sold-out concert on Saturday April 16.

A regular reunion
Following up on the success of â┚¬Å”Cactus Club: Rewindâ┚¬Â held April 1, a reunion for those to reminisce and celebrate Cactus Club, organizer Vince Koehle has decided to start â┚¬Å”First Friday: Cactus Club Style.â┚¬Â â┚¬Å”Cactus Club: REWINDâ┚¬Â was a great success with over 80-plus people attending,â┚¬Â said Koehle. â┚¬Å”The outside patio was the place to be and reconnect.â┚¬Â A great time was definitely had by all and thanks to the support of Paradise. Those who attended the first event are invited once again to come on out Friday, May 6, from 7â┚¬â€œ11:30 p.m. at Paradise Bar and Lounge on Mills Avenue.

Dishing dogma
The University of Central Florida hosted a caucus regarding same-sex marriage on April 21. More than 175 turned out for the event, which featured renowned anti-gay preacher, Dr. Michael L. Brown and was to be moderated by John Stembergerâ┚¬â€the man behind 2008's â┚¬Å”Marriage Protection Amendment.â┚¬Â Stemberger was dropped at the last minute but no reason was given. OneOrlando.org reported that even though anti-gay extremists turned out in large numbers, the faculty moderator kept the discussion in-check and did not allow the debate to venture into religious dogma. Brown authors anti-gay propaganda, like A Queer Thing Happened to America and hosts a syndicated radio program. The purpose of the debate was to tackle questions on homosexuality and family morals in America.
