Canadian Paul Hutcheson named his show Third Time Lucky because this is his third time back at our Fringe and he hopes he’ll be just as successful as he was for the past three times. Hutcheson is a funny and gifted storyteller, and this third time will no doubt be a charm.

Billeting with a bull-dyke lesbian on his first trip, which consummated in being awarded the “Faggy Award” by Fringe officials, Hutcheson quickly surmised that, “Orlando is really, really gay.” Self-professed to be “queer as a 3 dollar bill,” Hutcheson felt right at home.

Watching Hutcheson’s energetic performance is kind of like watching an over-caffeinated friend at a party who has been given the floor to entertain. Hutcheson seems to be willing to tell us everything and we’re eager to hear it, and happy to laugh along with our new friend.

Hutcheson’s adventures cover working with high-risk teens in Australia, the perils of teaching school, his sex life, and his lack of success with roommates. If he is to be believed – and I have no reason to think he shouldn’t be – Hutcheson has led one interesting life so far; he punctuates his stories by exclaiming, “Is this for real?” as if he can hardly believe his life himself.

Listen, we’re talking about a guy who has not only attended one of those sex parties arranged online, but took public transit to get there. Hutcheson deserves your attention – give it to him, and you’ll find that you are the lucky one.
