Navratilova battling cancer
Sarasota resident and tennis legend Martina Navratilova has breast cancer. The 53-year-old discovered a lump during a routine mammogram and had a lumpectomy in March. Her prognosis is excellent.

Ocala Olympian jailed on HIV charges

Olympic Equestrian bronze medalist Daren Chiacchia was arrested in January when the Marion County Sheriff’s Office charged him with knowingly exposing his former partner to HIV. Chiacchia, faces up to 30 years in prison under a 1997 Florida law making it a felony for people with HIV to have sex without informing their partners of their status.

Weir fuels Lysacek gay rumors
Figure skater Johnny Weir fueled rumors about fellow skater Evan Lysacek’s sexuality during an appearance on Chelsea Lately in late March. When the host asked Weir about Lysacek’s ex-girlfriend, Weir answered with a wink that said more than words possibly could. Weir, coincidentally, will make a guest appearance at an Equality California fundraiser April 18.
