Bill allowing same-sex marriage in D.C. introduced
Same-sex couples will be allowed to marry in the nation’s capital under a bill introduced by a District of Columbia Councilman David Catania. The bill is almost certain to pass and has been expected for some time. Congress will have 30 days to review the legislation before it takes effect.

Montana upholds parental rights in same-sex case

The Montana Supreme Court has upheld a woman’s parental rights to the two children her same-sex partner adopted during their relationship. The Court upheld a ruling that granted Michelle Kulstad joint custody of the two children—a boy adopted in 2001 and a girl adopted in 2004. Her former partner, Barbara Maniaci, who is now married to a man, had sought to end Kulstad’s parental rights.

Obama picks openly gay lawyer for ambassadorship

Barack Obama has indicated that he plans to nominate an openly gay lawyer as the U.S. ambassador to New Zealand and Samoa. If confirmed by the Senate, David Huebner would become the third openly gay ambassador in U.S. history and the first pick by this administration.
